There seems to have pretty much complains about funmobile charging people's bill for nothing. We can't really say these people hand itchy go sign up, or just happened to be "scammed". Here's the article and their summary.
Case 1: "I remembered receiving messages from FunMobile but as I was 100% sure I did not register, I just didn’t bother!" he exclaimed. At that point, Vincent tried to clarify matters with FunMobile but was told he still needed the pay the subscription fee. Not only that, canceling the service required him to fork out a further $20. "I was outraged! I kept telling the operator that I did not log into their service at all and had to haggle for a long time before she offered me a 50% discount off the total bill.” Case 2: Anonymous detailed to STOMP that he was charged $19.96 by FunMobile for ‘Weekly Membership Fees’ from 29 June to 26 July but he did not even register for FunMobile's services in the first place. “When I called FunMobile up regarding the charges, they claimed that I had visited their website and had given them my handphone number to be registered.” Incredulous, the STOMPer informed them that, “the handphone belonged to his 11-year-old daughter and she could not have registered at the website at that particular time as she was in school.” The officer-in-charge at FunMobile apparently refused to waiver off any subscription charges already billed but claimed to be able to waiver charges for subsequent weeks. Please be very careful with this kind of service. They asked for your handphone, and without your intention to register, they registered for you, along with your monthly bill... which is IMO unreasonable. If you want their service, sign up, if not, keep away. Also, it seems like GPRS plays a role in "automatically subscribe" the service for you, as claimed in one of the comment "threasher said on 21 Jul, 2007 I suspect this is what actually happened: my wife accessed GPRS on her mobile phone and somehow got into Funmobile''s web site. At this point, Funmobile took it as a confirmation of activation of their service. It is not true at all that she needs to visit their web site to complete a registration process and follow by confirmation by sending back a PIN. There is probably an arrangement between Funmobile and the mobile operator such that when a person accessed GPRS, he will be brought to Funmobile''s web site and unknowingly activate their service. Vincent Tan probably accessed GPRS and activated Funmobile''s service unknowingly." Just be careful will ya Last edited by PaulKami; 23-07-2007 at 11:49 PM.. |

Police can't do anything, because in the law, it's not scam. It has been brought up to case, but no news so far. It's still not clear if the person whom register for it, know that he'll be subscribing their service, you know, that kind of hidden "terms and conditions". Or even still, it's indicate in their terms and conditions, just that people registering didn't bother to read it.
Nevertheless, it's just a caution Fyi kind of post here. No, I did not say don't subscribe to funmobile, but only subscribe if you want their service. if you don't want, try your best not to reveal your hp number to them. |
