Question fierce mummy hamster!

hellos!

my little girl dwarf hamster, Chantilly, seems to be pregnant :D from the looks of her appetite and her ballooning size, it think it's impossible for her not to be pregnant...

my problem is that she's extremely fierce to her hubby, Dominique! they were living together fine and happily till 3 days ago, when I first noticed Chantilly's tummy and how "domestic abuse" has been happening every 5mins, all of them started by Chantilly. She's turned into a blood thirsty vampire mummy, and she keeps trying to bite Dominique... in the end Dommy's right leg was slightly injured and now i've given him his own cage in isolation to prevent any more injuries...

i read before getting my hamsters that Syrian ones are the fierce mama type, and dwarf hamster females are supposed to be very tolerant of having their husbands around to help with the kids during birth. but it seems that if i put Dommy back into the main cage, Chantilly won't let him live to see his kids getting born... :P i tried it just now and it was disastrous - she sniffed him out in a few seconds and it became a mad run and chase war, with bedding flying all over the place and squeaking sounds like burnt rubber on tarmac.

can anyone please shed light on why my hamsters are so close to homicide? and is there anything i can do to help Dommy be with Chantilly when she's birthing? i'm afraid that they'll become strangers and Dommy'll end up eating the kids when i put him back after the birth.

i think wait till after she give birth then put the male one back lor tt the only choice what maybe the female bit the male because she scare the male or the male disturb her n i dont think the male will kill the baby cauze they can recognize the kid tt what i think

i think u shld jsut seperate them permanently until the babies are born n independent..

at this stage, dont irritate the mother..cos mum hamsters havet he tendency to eat hteir young when agitated..

it's veri common for hamster mummies to eat their young.. this is knwn as cannabalism.. ususally the weaker ones or those tht are borned later will be eaten.. it also happen when there is a large litter..
the mummy does so in order to ensure survival of the stronger ones or when she thinks that she has not enough nutrients/milk to provide for all..

ya.. separating them would be good.. n when the young are born, do not attempt to put the father back as this will stress the mother n cannabalism chances will increase..

Mother hamster why bite the daddy hamster?

Reasons
1.) it know that it already have baby she need to get rid of any possible threats to them.
2.) A change in the body hormone which caused that to happen.

Sorry i dont like hamster... I will always have an urge to throw them into the hot boiling water, especially for those mother who ate their babies...

do not put the dad with the mum straight after bbs are born.. most probably the dad will hump the mum annd then u'll be expecting a 2nd pregnancy, which is no good at all cos the mum is not having enuff nutrients and net yet gain back health to support a 2nd pregnancy.

mummy eat babies not cos they are bloodthirsty or what.. she has her own instincts on how many pups she can handle etc.

yes, you shld cover the cage with a cloth. and also, DO NOT touch the new borns. because when the mother sense that her kids smell different, she will eat them. when your peeping at them, don't let the mother catch you doing that. best is peep from the top.

yes and don't let them mate soon after the the mother gives birth. she will eat more of the new borns.

also, remember to bring out the kids when they are independent enough, do separate them if you don't want too many hamster babies. then you shld be able to reunite mummy and daddy hamster.

she's probably kic

Usually Drawf Hamster can live in group in harmony.
But there some are some that cant.
The fierce one will usually bully the other.
In that case you need to seperate them.

Pregnant hamster should be left alone.
Do not try to touch her etc.
She might eat up the babies from preventing them taken by the enemy e.g Your Hand etc
