Chinese new year is meaningless
Every year during chinese new year, you do the same stupid thing of going to relative house and saying happy new year to everybody, get angbao and than either gossip about each other or play majhong etc..
For me is the worst. I am not close with my cousins..so everytime during chinese new year, all my uncles and aunties will be talking to my parents and I will be sitting down there by myself. Even worst is that I am the only child and so got no siblings to talk to. Every year chinese new year, go relative house to take angbao and than sit down there quietly and than go home. So lame and meaningless |

Well according to old tradition, it is where all relatives had a chance to gather and rejoice. In your case is opposite. Maybe you would want to talk to your cousins so that things will be easier for you?

Go there and talk rot to everyone. I have that ability to do that where i had not done so for a long time. After taking ang pow and etc if not having anything major, then maybe can go back earlier to go to places like Marina Promade etc...

I am also having the same problem. Though related, there's this animosity. Well, sometimes, we really have to take the first step to initiate a conversation.
For me, it is in recent CNY that I start to talk to my cousins, I realized that nobody talked to me in the past was because I seemed very 'dao' to them but now, it was alright. Problem is just a misunderstanding. |

for me... despite not that close with my cousins...
i feel its something that we should keep on doing for the sake of chinese custom... try talking abit here and there... or just listen to the chat of others... you may learn something which might be useful |
