Default When stopping at traffic lights......

i got a question to ask for all the people who drive Automatics here.

when you stop at a traffic light, do you shift to N when waiting, or leave it at D and step on the brake.

as much as i know, when the waiting time is not long, let's say, 20 seconds.

i will keep it on D and keep the brake pressed down. doing so is because the gears will keep on rotating but the wheels won't turn as brakes are applied, thefore no need to shift down to N causing some wear.

But if the timing is too long, or the traffic light turned red just when you approched it, i will shift it to N. and still keep the brake pressed down.

No reason why its done, probably to relieve the gears when stationary for long periods?

so which one do you people go for? Keep in D or shift to N first.

Keep it in D. Changing gear frequently from D to N and back will cause more wear to the valves and clutch plates.

If its a levelled road junction and the lights just turned red, i would switch to N.

When i'm waiting or temporary stopping, i would shift to N instead of P and put on e handbrake

leave it at D and step on the brake.

Last time when I drive...I intend to shift to N..but need to keep my eyes at many things also...so its just convenient to just step on the brake...

automatic is unlike manual. no need to change to N gear if u r just waiting for traffic light green.

last time i tot will spolit if i brake too long but im wrong. auto design is made this way.

Every driver knows that automatic cars of course they do not have clutch pedal. But they do have clutch plates. Probably this site will brighten u up.

woops.

i meant the pedal, the clutch is auto working with the gears.

the most absurd one i have ever heard is a fellow who shifts to every gear in his car which include d1,d2,D,N,R,P for 2 seconds before driving off.

this is because it lets the oil goes into the gear smoothly.

and the newspaper editor replied him to get a manual car if he loves shifting so much cause the method is absolute bullshit.LOL.
