THE widow was in the kitchen of her Port Dickson home, preparing Hari Raya delicacies when tragedy struck.

As Madam Che Wa Husin, 56, leaned against the refrigerator at about 4.30pm on Monday, a bolt of lightning blew a hole through the wall and struck the fridge, reported the New Straits Times.

The fridge was completely burnt by the surge in current and Madam Che Wa was seriously injured. She died later in hospital.

Her sister, Ms Che Yong, 51, who was also in the kitchen injured her right hand in the lightning strike.

Madam Che Wa had just finished cooking her speciality, chicken rendang, for her brother whom she had not seen for some time.

She leaned against the fridge to take a breather. It was drizzling at the time.

The brother, Mr Mohd Nordin Husin, 69, lives in Malacca.

He said: 'I was eager to see Che Wa as we hadn't seen each other for a long time.

'I never thought I would be here for her burial.'

Mr Mohd Noh Othman, the imam of Jamek Pasir Panjang mosque, said Madam Che Wa would be missed by the community.

Her husband died several years ago and she raised her three children, now aged between 23 and 28, and looked after her mother, who is in her 80s.

She was known to be a good cook.

'She often helped out with the cooking during kenduri (feast days), and the villagers always enjoyed her food,' added the imam.

He said he last saw Madam Che Wa on Sunday when she walked into his his grocery shop to buy coconut milk.

He said: 'She was telling me how she was going to prepare her famous chicken rendang for her relatives for Hari Raya.'

Abit bad...my fren was telling me this news today while having dinner together...I was laughing all the way....mayb coz of the way he tell it....

He din say it go through the roof....he said it went through the window....
