Thumbs up Ritz Carton’s The Greenhouse buffet

Having heard many good reviews for it, I made a reservation yesterday for their Seafood Dinner Buffet and was told it will not be the usual Seafood buffet they used to serve. For this week, they called it Australian Seafood Buffet.

Reached there before 6:30pm and there are already some diners seated. Buffet started promptly at 6:30pm. Headed straight to the seafood section. First thing that caught my eyes are the big prawn, not the usual smaller ones you get at other places. There are also crabs (those normal type), lobster claws, a few types of mussels, oysters, small lobsters (like those we rear) and scallops. Only tried the prawns, lobster claws and mussels and were not disappointed. The prawns are firm and crunchy and very fresh tasting. Instead of the normal crayfish, they serve Boston Lobster. The live lobsters are boiled in two big pots, pity those lobsters as they were struggling for their life. So I gave two of them a decent burial in my stomach. :D

For the Japanese section, there are a few types of sashimi (salmon, tuna and another type of fish). I did not try any of the sashimi as my tummy is not feeling well. An assortment of sushi are also available. Taste like those you get in a Japanese restaurant. One thing that stands out is the Unagi sushi, instead of a small piece of eel over a big lump of rice, you get a thick piece of eel meat that cover the whole rice ball. Took two pieces of it and that is the last I seen of them as they were not refilled.

Next up, the hot dishes. Herbal chicken, braised duck, stuffed quail meat, roast beef, curry mutton, sea cucumber with mushroom, sweet and sour prawns and quite a few more dishes which I didn’t checked out. Gave the chicken and duck a miss, only tried a little of the rest except for the sea cucumber which I ate many pieces (expensive stuffs must eat more). :D

The only remotely Australian food that I came across is the roast Kangaroo meat. At first glance, it look like roast beef to me. The serving was very small, 3 tiny pieces of the meat with a dark purple centre. Can’t really taste anything out of it as the herbs are too strong though it’s very tender and soft.

There are also roast beef and lamb which the chef will crave for you. Skipped this also as almost too stuffed to eat any more. There are also salads, assortment of cheese and breads, soups which I didn’t bother to check them out.

Finally the desserts. Citrus pie (orange and other fruits), Apple pie, and the usual stuffs. Didn’t try any of them. No chocolate fountain to be found here but they do have a variety of chocolate balls and squares. Tried them all, and one word to describe, “Yummy”. For ice creams, they have 4 flavours, Pineapple, Sour Peach, Chocolate and another one I didn’t ask. Only tried the Pineapple and Sour Peach, taste more like sherbet then ice cream but it’s a very refreshing change from the usual Strawberry, Vanilla and Chocolate ones.

By the time I left at about 8pm, the tables were fully occupied. Damage to the wallet: $56 +++. Overall the it was a pleasure dinning there, the services were very good, empty plates are cleared almost as soon as you finished the foods on it, napkin are folded nicely on the table the moment you left the seat to get more foods. Best of all the seafood are very fresh, no powdery after taste.

Yes, that is the normal dinner buffet. The Champagne Bunch on Sunday cost even more at $120.

For $56+++ I think is worth it as you get to eat unlimited Lobsters (big big ones) and of course other nice foods. One lobster already cost alot of money if you buy outside.

A very nice touch is that they provide a bowl of water with lemon for you to wash your fingers after eating the seafood.

Tried it once, but I dont think it was the Australian one..... Yes my impression of it was very good as well - the variety was more than enough, and their food is fresh and tasty. But then again I didnt expect less since its the Ritz we are talking about here. I'd say its value for money... unlike some other places I can name....

I don't see pork dishes. Most likely just: No pork. No Lard dishes. Can call the number I gave above to confirm.

They have won numerous awards. It's definitely worth the price for the fresh seafood. Just two lobsters will cost almost what you have paid for the buffet if not more.

gladysbeyond> The Australian Seafood Buffet promotion is only for the whole of last week.

well i ahve to agree that the ozzie seafood buffet is good, though not really very good value for money, i think the service makes up for it. a good experience.

the champagne brunch is well a total splurge of money. its got a good spread, plus a good choice of champagnes. not as good as the pernods, but good enough. cannot really appreciate the champagne cos i am no connesieur haha
