Need advice from the watches expert and fellow entrepreneur.
I am currently planning to introduce a new brand of watches from China to Singapore. The watches are not a typical chepo type that found is bugis street or pasar malam. Price ranges from $90-$170. Style, design and themes are quite similar to Elle, Espirit or Adidas. Young, bold and trendy. Target market 17-35 years old. · In your opinion, do you think watches market are too saturated with too many big brand names in the market? · Is Singaporean more brands conscious and opt for branded stuff like CK or Guess which slightly more expensive. Or young people willing to try something new and style with unknown brand and slightly cheaper. · How many watches you own or how often you buy new watches? I owned 5 watches with the other 4 hardly use at all. Thank you for any advise and opinion. ![]()

u mean watch or swatch?
swatch is a brand name u know? imho, for $90 - $170, i could get Elle, Espirit or Adidas already.. so y would i pay the same price for a china not-heard-b4-brand? i dun think the watch market is saturated with too many brands.. in fact, from the point of view of a consumer, the more brands out there the better.. we like more choices, dun we? i do not speak for all sporeans but i feel that most sporeans indeed r brand conscious.. ask yourself, if u were to buy a car, would u buy a proton (whatever model) or a toyota vios, since they cost almost the same.. imo, IN MY OPINION onli.. (shoot mi if u want).. wearing a china brand watch is as good as wearing a fake nike watch sold at bugis street.. i own around 100 watches, all brand new unworn swatches n g-shocks.. (unworn cos i dun watch watch, haha) ;p

Hey, thanks for correction Nexonn. Paiseh.
Already edited. Well, you make a point actually. In fact this China brand is quite popular locally. So I am still not so sure whether or not to consider. Somemore the min requirement is very high. For me, watches from Elle, Adidas or Esprit is just something to add on to their major line. Example: fashion. But not particularly strong or specialise in the watches market. So I though maybe,...maybe there is a room for another player. The question is, how to convince customer like you to buy. By the way, 100 watches,.....man, are you collector or something?

For watches costing 90-170.. i would rather get known brands.
I have 3-4 watches. 2 mainly only when i am working or when i dress formally. Another is for when i do sports. But i hardly wear when i go out (excluding working days) i just use my hp for e time.

I'm just speaking from a consumer point of view.
I hardly shop for watches as most of mine are gifts from friends and family. I dun go for branded watches (as they are too expensive) nor do I buy pasar malam watches (poor quality and dun last). Personally if i were to shop for watches, firstly I will consider the brand and currently in the market, for that range of prices you mentioned, you can get really nice brands like what u already said Elle, Adidas. Though they are fashion watches and I do note that the quality ain't as good, they do sell. IMO, it's bcos of the branding behind it. If you wanna sell this brand of watches, you really gotta do a bit of branding on it and honestly from China, consumers tend to be skeptical abt the quality even though it is good. You basically need to do a lot of convincing work to pusuade the consumers why they should pay that kind of money for an unknown brand from China. Btw, if i remember correctly some time ago I remember seeing a brand of watches being advertised and I think it's from China. It caught my attention bcos of the design as it's really trendy and colourful.

I think the price you set is too high, most probably your brand need packaging, advertisment, and as u said. they are addidas..swatch look alike... meaning they are nothing special. In my opinion, consumers wouldn't want to pay the same amount for a desgin lookalike watch ~~

Hi ALL, thanks for the opinion and feedback.
Its very usefull. I think singaporeans generally very brands conscious. But note these day, brands does not always quarantee you a good product quality. WINTERALE, thanks for some hope. I think campaign for awareness is a must. The style is very trendy and colorfull. I am expeting to have the good available in Singapore by end September 06. For the start I will the business through online for trial with free shipping cost. Then from there, depend on respond, will launch an outlet or looking for distributor DJCHRIS, assuming this brand is very popular & reputable in China, will you still consider? 1 year warranty, Price below $100, trendy and fashionable. Some of the Casio range presumably also made in China. ANTI-MAGE, will post the picture soon. Still need to learn how too. FASTBREAKER, agree with you. My product come with packaging and inhouse 1 year warranty. Campaign and some sort of advertising is a must. Any suggestion what type of magazine. What do you think of this free magazines from starbuck outlet "IS" ??? I want to reach to those young and trendy. NOt uncle type. Maybe I am considering to position the brand between adidas/elle (mid price) and lower end with no brand. So in the middle. Currently my average price is around $90-$100 Adidas watch is branded good, however I found there is no continuity in product design. So I was thinking maybe I have points of different to offer. Thanks All. ![]()
