TRAFFIC police are offering a 50 per cent discount on unpaid fines to mark National Day today, and will set up payment counters at shopping malls and highway rest areas.
Singaporean offenders also qualify but can pay only in Malaysia as the counters in Singapore have been closed. Up to 3.4 million summonses issued since 1999 have not been settled yet, the New Straits Times reported. The discount offer, from Sept 1 to 22, is for all types of offences with summonses of more than RM40 (S$18). But offences committed during Ops Sikap, which carry the maximum fine of RM300, and those issued with warrants of arrest under Ops Warta are not eligible for the discount. All the counters at district police headquarters will be open from 8am to 6pm on weekdays and 9am to 2pm on weekends and holidays. Counters are also open from 4pm to 6pm on weekdays at the North-South Highway rest area in Tapah (Perak), Ulu Bernam (Selangor) and the Air Keroh elevated restaurant (Malacca). Quote:
