Hi guys, recently i have been trying to use my TV(Toshiba HDTV) to watch movie on my PC/laptop. Right now, i only have a VGA cable (15 pins that kind) and i tried to link them up using that, just to experiment with it.
1) For my laptop, it can't work at all. Nothing show up on my TV screen. Because my laptop is too old or sth? 2) For my PC, it works. However, i can only view 1/4 of my desktop screen. Tried to change the resolution but to no avail (only can keep it at "800 x 600"). Initally i thought this is because i am not using my graphic card on my PC to connect. So using the same VGA cable, i connect my graphic card (i have a plug converter) to the TV. It shows the start up screen for a while and hanged, as in the TV screen keep blinking but nth show up. 3) I notice there is a HDMI slot behind my TV, am i suppose to get a HDMI cable to connect instead? 4) What type of cable do i need for the sound output? Sorry, i understand it is abit wordy there. Trying my best to make it as detailed as possible =) Any help here is greatly appreciated. Last edited by Hete; 06-03-2009 at 01:28 PM.. |

i think u can get a VGA - HDMI cable for video
unless ur TV support VGA input lar then have to toggle ur lappy display Fn + (F2-F6) depends on brands as for audio input, most TV dont have the audio jack but u still can connect to hi-fi or speakers

hey....Its very simple If your TV has a VGA/DVI output, then yes, you can just use it as the monitor. If your computer and TV support S-Video, you can use that as well. I'm guessing you have the old school VGA output on your PC. Just run the old cable that was connected to the monitor into the TV, then switch to the PC output on the TV.

I think it's very simple. If your computer and Television have a VGA post, you can easily use your TV as a Screen by buying a VGA lead. They're availible in alot of electronic shops and are relitavely cheap.

An S-Video cable is cheap as heck and just about every TV under the sun has a S-Video port. You’ll have to make sure you pc is equipped with this port. Remember, there are two types of S-Video cables: 4-pin and 7-pin. Most PC’s are equipped with a 7-pin port, so if your TV only has a 4-pin S-Video port, then this method will not work.

You will probably need a video card installed in your PC which has RF out available to connect ir to your TV. You can also look for a card which uses other digital (not analog) out signal, like S-Video. Also, look for the available IN entrances your TV has. If it's a new TV with HD and such, it can be easier to get a device for your PC, and will be bigger than if you use regular RF cables.
