Hello :)

I'm 22, newly married and I live in Perth, West Australia. Looks like I have found a good message board...the paranormal combined with Singapore: 2 of my favourite things. :)

I've been to Singapore twice and i'm going back again next month. Not long to go now!

As for the paranormal...I've always wanted to be a parapsychologist.

Hope to talk to all of you soon.

Parapsychology is a branch of psychology that study anomalous human experiences, including NDE, OBE, ghost and haunting, consciousness, poltergeist, ESP, PK and many others. They do not necessarily "believe" in the phenomena because they are scientists doing objective research. Take ghost phenomena for example, parapsychologists acknowledge that such phenomena exist but they may not agree that ghosts are spirits of the dead, some of them think that the phenomena can be explained by hallucination, ESP, influences from EMF and infra-sound etc.

Most are lecturers in universities so they receive the same salary as other university lecturer. But the field is, not surprisingly, controversial, so it is hard to get any funding for research and there is hardly any progress. You need to be a psychologist first before specialising in parapsychology.

Both Harvard and Stanford Universities have fellowships endowed explicitly for psychical research (but they don't advertise it, and most of the available funds have been usurped for other purposes).

You can get more details at http://www.psiresearch.org/para3.html

No they don't. As I say, they are PSYCHOLOGIST and as such only study human EXPERIENCES towards paranormal events. Not all of them believe in the objective existence of ghosts or demons, not to mention exorcise? Also one important aspect of scientific study (in any field, not just parapsychology) is not to mess with your data of study, i.e. scientists are not part of the study. That's why primatologist who study gorillas try to get used to them first so as the gorillas can accpet his or her presence and behave as they would naturally. Similarly a parapsychologist can study about exorcism but not be part of the ritual himself. An experimenter cannot be a part of the experiment.

icic.....i read from a website dat there are ppl who uses technology to capture the presence of ghost n then exorcise usin technology something like wat ghostbusters do but not so exaggerated style but more in a rational n scientific manner .....i tink they are scientists in this field who specialise in ghosts....btw do u happen to noe wat are they called?

I don't even know that such "scientists" exist. After all you have to prove that ghosts exist and you have to know what ghosts really are (particle? wave? If particle what kind of particle? Does it has mass? charges? EMF?) only then you can talk about "catching" them :sarcastic

No I am not a psychologist. The most I have is attending PL1101E: Introduction to Psychology in NUS  I am just being interested in science in general, so I understand scientific methodology used in various fields of Science. :)
