I was rather  puzzelled at why would HDB build the estate in such a "ul loo" place. A check with the road directory would comfirm this, nearest civilisation being at least 4 km away. I personally have passed by the HDB estate during my NS training days and it looks really creepy from the outside. :.(

last time my uncle lived there. he is a fish monger at the market also. last time when there were still many people staying at the Lim Chu Kang kampongs this place is quite normal 'cos it is the nearest "town" in that area.
den the govt moved out all the kampongs (my grandma was a farmer in LCK at tat time) this "town" become isolated. den no people no business so everyone moved out to Bukit Panjang, Teck Whye, CCK lor...

yah, and i think the govt dun wan to build more flats there 'cos they wan to use LCK road as emergency runway for the Tengah Air Base fighter jets.

That means the government spent money building flats there and now it's all wasted??? might as well distribute the money to the needy

probably this flats are build many many yrs back.... during the development of LCK..... during my NS time... i understand that it's for those pple who owns farms there.... but when the older generation went off .... the younger generation felt the incovenience travelling in and out (one bus service only)... they decided to shift out... probably causes this situation lor...

got thread on similar topic
http://forums.keeptouch.net/showthread.php?p=923421#post923421
HDB finished building the place around 1979-1980 to accomodate the growing kampung population, especially when the kampung houses not enuf for new families (and no, it's not at Kranji which was called Nam Ho by the old timers). The place was definitely not ulu during that time.
When the gov decided to re-develop the area in the mid-late 80s, the resettled the population in phases. The first to go were the villages around old CCK and Jalan Bahar (behind the now cemeteries), followed by Ama Keng village (no landmarks there now i think) and Jalan Bathera (the road leading to Camp Christine and all the minor roads beyond), then Neo Tiew Rd and the rest of LCK proper further up LCK Rd after the HDB blocks. The minor road where my house used to be was one of the last few to go b'coz we had extended our stay for 2-3 years from the gov, while those that stayed at the HDB left the last. Excluding the HDB i think the resettlement took ard 5 - 7 years to complete. Was sad helplessly seeing the slow exodus happening.
Pls see my posts in the above thread to understand how much activity the place used to have. LCK's population was able to support at least 6 primary schools (to my knowledge) during it's prime - Loyang Pri, Lim Chu Kang Pri, Ama keng Pri, Kay Wah Branch 1, Kay Wah Branch 2 and Kay Wah Main Branch. I studied at LCK Pri until school closed after my Pri 4 :cry1: .
Am still hoping to find my former Pri 4 classmates though... anyone from class 4A in 1987?

if u got time i can bring u (and any kaki u have lah) there and see lorz. can PM me if really want. too bad the place oredy got wire fence so cannot go in (i think). Bus 175 still pass by the place and terminates at LCK Rd end by the Straits of Singapore, another former place of fun but now dreary except for the weekend fishermen and anglers at the jetty.
