there are real ones, maybe nowadays seldom find. my grandfather was one - the deity appoint him even though he dun want. the deity told him that he got short life so he was picked to help people and then get longer life.

anyway to cut short, just 2 examples of real Ki Tang exist:

1) one day he just suddenly jumped up and start procession walk to the next village. Last time village very far and no transport. then he walk into this house to help cure a very sick man. the family there was very surprised because they never seek help from anyone but the deity just find his way there. after giving them some talisman to burn and drink, and some herb list for them to get medicine, the man recovered.

2) one am-pai (detective) dun believe the deity is in my grandfather's body during one Ki Tang session and he block his path. he took out gun and point at my grandfather's head and challenged the deity to walk forward. then the deity just looked at him and he immediately drop to the ground (fainted).

so dun play play when next time you see such sessions and dun anyhow say things even if youdun believe...

process for the #1 case in my previous post is anytime, anywhere. then all the other helpers get their drums and cymbals, and accessories and follow.

if somebody with serious problem wants to seek help from the deity, then they have to burn joss sticks and "invite" the deity to possess the medium. once the deity "arrives", the medium will start the behave like the deity. for info, the temple has 7 different deities and all have particular behaviour/character. the medium will talk in a totally different language which most of us cannot understand. heard from my dad that it is something like Sanskrit (not sure how to spell). there is one assistant who can understand this language next to the medium who will interpret the instructions to the devotee.

if the medium is not available, there is also another method to Ki Tang. they can use the "kyo" - the sedan chair carried by 4 persons at each corner. they tie the wooden deity to this chair and 4 persons will slowly rock the chair while others pray and "invite" the deity. when the deity arrives and go into the wooden deity, the chair will start to rock and move by itself very violently. the 4 person will now be trying to hold the chair from flying off. they can start seeking the deity for advice. most of the time the 4 persons' shoulders will be sore and sometimes their also peeled off.

i heard of "ghost" (i rather use spirit than ghost) possession from an uncle selling vegetarian food. if you remember from my post in Food thread, i had been vegetarian for more than 13 years (going to be 14 next month). that uncle's took in a girl possessed by 4 different spirits at the same time. she will sleep the whole day/night without waking up even if the brother use pails of water and stick to whack her. details hope to post when i have time. now the girl is married with kids and selling vegetarian food in AMK.

Use to assume that they go through a ritual which is like hypnosis to make them think that they are the gods themselves... then again, this assumption cannot be tested out...

from wad i know, for hinduism, before they perform the act (like the heavy thing tat hooks on their body using needles, running over charcoal and poking a pole from left cheeck to right cheek w/o bleeding or pain) they pray a lot and the "higher level monks" helps them pray and den they go into a trance. after tat, it is believed to be mind over body, as in.. becos the mind is vr powerful, they have managed to reach a moment of mind over body.. so much so tat their mind controls how the body functions. i am not sure whether tis explanation is true or not but tat was wad my teacher told me after her trip to a country where such practice was common.. i forgot wad country, tho...

my grandfather also had a ball full of nails sticking out and swing to his back. sometimes also use a small sword to pierce through the cheek and tongue. And he will cut the tip of his tongue to "write" the talisman (yellow paper "fu") which is more effective than those written by hand with red ink.

They always say the women who are menstruating should not go near to the temple or such sessions - it it a true fact. Once during a Ki Tang session, my grandfather's cheek was pierced with the sword and suddenly the blood shoot out (normally very little blood will flow out). Everyone keep asking any lady with "grand auntie" to go away immediately. Then one lady ran away because she had it. Then the blood had to be stopped by using the ashes from joss.

For those who dun believe, my advice is: there are many things that our eyes cannot see but it doesn't mean they do not exist. What is the difference between a body kept alive by medical equipment and alive person? Soul or spirit? There are some people who can see things that ordinary people like us cannot see. They see go thru many things that we cannot understand easily...

just my 2 bits.

It's just some energy that haven't left us in my opinion though...
Now we will be talking about these stuff and being scared while in the future students might be studying physics talking about how those energy are left behind after someone dies...
It's just like those stupid egyptians they see scarab at the deadbodies think they are some kind of god of dead or something...
